A Houston Icon

Since 1938, Rice Village has grown in acreage and appeal by way of barber and deli shops, mom-and-pops, and quirky variety stores, evolving over the years to gather beloved eateries, design boutiques, and innovative brands into our fold. Still today, the magic is in the mélange—from the lovable mix of shops and variegated architecture to that palpable quality of a place touched by generations of merchants and families.

Under the leadership of Rice Real Estate Company, and managed by REIS Associates, the Village is investing in significant improvements that will embrace one of this area’s most defining attributes—its trees. The perennial pockets of plants and oaks and ivy that envelop our city with an enviable green year-round, and contribute to the enchanting milieu felt while strolling down streets dappled in shade.

Rice Village will become

Houston’s first walkable
garden district.

A Natural Commons

In the coming months, hardscape sidewalks will gain lush landscaping and an abundance of seasonal plants, verdant facade refreshes, pop-up parks, and flowering art installations.

We’ll also be making it easier to reach us. Stitching together the Village’s urban grid of streets with its adjacent avenues and boulevards, the district will be safely accessible by bike and by foot—replacing congestion with convenience, and worn edges with pedestrian-friendly pathways and lighting. Clear signage and generous shade coverage will make for comfortable passage rain or shine.

Blooming Anew

The Village has always nurtured an atmosphere of relaxed discovery—whether in uncovering new brands or revisiting timeless favorites—with colorful storefronts and canopied restaurants that welcome both practical and leisurely pursuits. Ongoing renovations and innovations keep the district flush with the kind of vibrancy and versatility inherent to a village experience.

And an active rotation of programming and events—yoga, farmers markets, holiday concerts, art exhibits in the plaza—further encourages the gentle co-mingling of people and place.

Growing—Together

While we grow greener, more connected, and more cohesive as a village, we acknowledge that any good growth requires time and teamwork—and real respect for our roots. We are so grateful for your enthusiasm and patience while we work to cultivate a walkable, welcoming space for commerce and community.

A place growing and growing together.
